CSIS 471 - Senior System Development I

Course Description

In the senior system development sequence, students apply their knowledge and software engineering skills gained through course work to a substantial computer/information science project. In the first semester, projects are defined and necessary background research along with feasibility studies are completed. Students must also consider the ethical, moral, and social impact of their systems. Collaboration with other departments of the university is encouraged.

Objectives

This course is designed as the requirement gathering phase of the CS Department's Senior capstone sequence. It is the first course in the sequence CSIS 471/472. The main objective is for the entire sequence is for each student to complete a senior project for which a portfolio will be created consisting of sample preliminary, intermediate, and final design docs, complete source code from the project, and a fully documented user's manual. Each student should draw on the total knowledge base they have gained throughout their time at GFU. This course will focus on the initial project definition and requirement documentation.

Course Organization

Students will give round-table discussions on their progress to date at class meetings along with advanced topic discussions on current software engineering research.

I do not expect you to give more than 100% towards this class, however I also will accept no less.

If you have specific physical, psychiatric, or learning disabilities and require accommodations, please contact the Disability Services office early in the term so that your learning needs may be appropriately met. You will need to provide current documentation of your disability to Disability Services. For more information, contact Director of Disability Services.
